An AI toy retail pilot should test a specific customer proposition and measure commercial outcomes alongside support costs. This guide provides a measurement framework; it does not report a verified InfiniAi customer result.
Define the product and the decision first
Write down the intended age group, interaction scenario, languages, content boundaries and sales channel. Identify the hardware version, firmware, app or cloud service and subscription terms used in the pilot. A change to any of these can affect both customer response and operating cost.
Agree in advance what decision the pilot will support: improve the demonstration, revise the interaction, adjust the retail offer, or proceed to another engineering build. A successful demonstration alone does not establish a sustainable product.
Use a comparable baseline
Record the dates, stores or online channels, available stock, product price, discounts, advertising and staff training. Compare similar trading periods and disclose seasonal events. If a comparison group is practical, use a similar offer without the new experience and record the differences.
Separate unit sales from revenue and margin. Revenue increasing from 100 to 200 is a 100% increase; increasing from 100 to 300 is a 200% increase. These are arithmetic examples, not reported project results. Do not attribute all change to AI when pricing, promotion or distribution also changed.
Measure the full customer journey
Purchase: units sold, net revenue, gross margin and stock availability.
Activation: successful setup, connectivity, consent steps and first useful interaction.
Ongoing use: repeat use within a defined observation period, with a clear definition of an active device.
Support: return reasons, refunds, help requests and the cost of resolving common issues.
Service dependency: cloud usage, content maintenance, update support and any ongoing fees.
Check experience and safety boundaries
Test listening, processing, response and error states so that users understand what the device is doing. Review age-appropriate content, supervision, microphone controls, account access and deletion procedures for the intended market. Confirm the applicable product and data requirements with the responsible specialists; a pilot is not a substitute for compliance assessment.
What should the pilot report contain?
Include the configuration, sample size, observation period, comparison method, metric definitions, exclusions and unresolved defects. Distinguish observations from interpretations. Obtain permission before publishing customer names, images or attributed results.
Prepare the next product review
Bring the pilot evidence into AI companion and toy development, product development and manufacturing preparation. Discuss your project brief with your target users, markets, interaction requirements and pilot stage.
Common questions
Can a pilot guarantee sales growth?
No. A pilot can reduce uncertainty about a defined offer under stated conditions. It cannot guarantee future sales or isolate causation without an appropriate design.
What information is needed before a quotation?
Share the product format, target age and markets, languages, interaction flow, service dependencies, branding, expected volume and support expectations. Confirm commercial terms in the current written quotation.
